Astronomy at the Beach

Astronomy at the Beach is a free, family-friendly event that takes place once a year. The Great Lakes Association of Astronomy Clubs (GLAAC), a group of amateur astronomy clubs and educational institutions in Southeastern Michigan, organizes the event. The event’s goal is to inspire curiosity and a love of astronomy and science.

(While the event itself is free, parking requires a Michigan Recreation Passport or a park entry fee).

The next event will be held Friday & Saturday, September 20 & 21, 2024 (our 28th year!), 4:00PM to 11:30PM.

Location: Maybury State Park, 49601 Eight Mile Road, Northville MI, 48167.

Please note that Maybury State Park has two entrances — but the park roads do not connect the different areas of the park. The entrance off Beck Road access the equestrian stables and riding area — but not Astronomy at the Beach. The entrance off 8 Mile Road accesses the event area and telescope field. (Note, this is a change for 2024 only. The usual location is Island Lake Recreation Area).
