McMath Observatory @ Peach Mountain

Peach Mountain McMath Observatory

The McMath Observatory at Peach Mountain is the home observatory of University Lowbrow Astronomers Club. It is owned by the University of Michigan, but maintained by the Lowbrows. It contains the 24 inch McMath cassegrain telescope.

Amenities:

  • 24″ McMath cassegrain telescope
  • roll-off roof observatory building
  • visual observing site near UM radio telescope
  • limited electrical power for automated and imaging work near Observatory building

Pros:

  • Bortle 5-6 skies
  • Located in rural Dexter, minutes from Ann Arbor and freeways

Cons:

  • No restroom facilities
  • Limited electrical power (bring your own electrons to be sure

Directions:

Peach Mountain is located on North Territorial Road about four miles north of Dexter.

To get to the observatory, travel 1.1 miles west along North Territorial Road from the Dexter-Pinckney Road intersection. You will see a small maize and blue sign that marks the gate.
