Your membership in the Lowbrows entitles you to substantial discounts on Sky and Telescope magazine and Astronomy magazine subscriptions. The astronomy club discounted rate for Sky and Telescope magazine is $43.95 for one year (there is no multi-year option); Astronomy magazine is $34.00 for one year, $60.00 for two, or $83.00 for three. If you subscribe to both magazines, then the discounts can cover much of your dues, if not pay for them completely!
With either magazine, contact the treasurer if you are having trouble obtaining the club discounted rates. Some of the following instructions may be out-of-date and some details may have changed. Let the club treasurer know if you have trouble with any of the following.
And, if all of this sounds a bit confusing, then it’s because it is. If you have any questions or need clarification then simply contact the treasurer.
Sky and Telescope Magazine
The discounted rate is $43.95 for one year. There is no longer a multi-year option. You can enter new subscriptions or renew existing ones yourself by doing the following:
- Call them at (800) 253-0245
- If asked then answer the prompts to get to a subscription representative. The rep should ask you for a code.
- If you are entering a new subscription then the code is 4CLB15.
- If you are renewing an existing subscription then the code is 5CLB15.
NOTE: Sky and Telescope does have a way of subscribing and renewing subscriptions online, but to my knowledge there is no way to enter the club promo code. Meaning a print subscription will cost $56.05 instead of $43.95. To get the special club discount you have to call them as described above. Also note that with renewals they probably won’t invoice you at the club rates listed above. You have to call them and provide the club code to get the discount.
Astronomy Magazine
As of this writing, discounted rates for print only and digital only are still just $34.00, $60.00, and $83.00 for one, two, and three years, respectively.
To get Astronomy magazine’s club discount do the following:
- Go to www.astronomy.com/clubmember
- There is no longer a club code. Simply enter the type of subscription you want (print, print + digital, digital only) and your billing and mailing info.
- If you are renewing an existing subscription then be sure to enter your name and address exactly as it appears on a late issue’s mailing label or on your renewal notice if you’ve received one in the mail. When they see the match they’ll extend your current subscription.
Because they ask that you create an account using your email address and a password I cannot renew your subscription for you. Your only option is to renew online.
